The Flinn Foundation strives to improve the quality of life in Arizona to benefit future generations. To achieve this mission, the foundation aims to advance the state’s bioscience sector, providing a top notch education to high achieving students in Arizona, boost the fiscal and creative capacity of the state’s arts and cultures, and develop future state-level civic leaders.
The foundation was created by Dr. Robert S. Flinn, a prominent cardiologist, and his wife Irene. Dr. Flinn and his father, also a doctor, practiced within the city of Prescott for nearly fifty years, running a very popular tuberculosis sanatorium before Flinn started heading up the department of cardiology and electrocardiology at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Phoenix. Using this background, Dr. and Mrs. Flinn chose to focus their efforts on improving the quality of health care in the state, helping with the advancement of medical education and biomedical research.
They would further these efforts to include the arts and narrowing their health care focus on biosciences.
Programs run under the Flinn Foundation include:
Bioscience research, which helps to build Arizona as a global center and leader for research and commercialization.
Flinn Scholars, which provides world class undergraduate education with a partnership with state public universities. The program offers scholarships to the highest achieving high school students, giving them more opportunities, flexibilities, and support.
Arts and culture support, which helps to promote Arizona’s largest arts and culture organizations by prioritizing capitalization and grants for those programs and helping to strengthen the effectiveness of the arts.
Arizona Charitable Giving is a labor of love created to make it easier for the residents of our great state to search and find local charities that touch their hearts. We share selected charities and events to a large distribution list of Arizona residents via email and social media on a regular basis. Any qualified charitable organizations are welcome to submit their profile to be included in our on-going outreach efforts.
