Creating a pathway out of poverty, Homeward Bound serves the needs of families that are going through homelessness by providing them with housing, programs, and services that help them get back on their own two feet.
Families who go to Homeward Bound are provided with affordable housing that is safe and well maintained, while being assigned a case manager to help them focus on budgeting, repairing their credit, and getting the needed resources to achieve their goals and build their life skills. These skills also include GED tutoring, self-esteem, home maintenance, parenting, time management, and access to emergency pantries.
Homeward Bound has been helping families and individuals since 1990, giving them a four-step journey to residency:
1. A family in the community becomes homeless
2. The family contacts Homeward Bound and moves into an apartment or single family home
3. Over the next year or two, programs help the family become stable and able to support themselves
4. The family then leaves the program, fully employed and receiving their own permanent housing.
We have provided support to over 150 families in the valley:
We have served a total of 410 families
We’ve served 147 adults and 263 children
Nearly 80% of families have earned a steady income
More than 69% have graduated and have received permanent housing
One of our programs is the Strong Foundations Center, which is an accredited, licensed early learning center operated by Homeward Bound and serves children aged 6 weeks through kindergarten, along with after school programs up to third grade.
Arizona Charitable Giving is a labor of love created to make it easier for the residents of our great state to search and find local charities that touch their hearts. We share selected charities and events to a large distribution list of Arizona residents via email and social media on a regular basis. Any qualified charitable organizations are welcome to submit their profile to be included in our on-going outreach efforts.
