It is critical for Arizona’s citizens and economy that the state emerges from the 2008 economic downturn with an education system that provides skills and credentials needed to achieve their individual potential and meet the rising challenge of global competition. That is part of the mission of the Checkered Flag Run foundation – to provide diverse educational programs that impact under served students and veterans with access to quality educational opportunities that ensure the investment of every student and veteran.
The objectives for the Checkered Flag Run is three-fold:
Develop and invest in education, specific to school readiness tools, and multiple career pathways to increase career aspirations that drive Arizona’s workforce
Raise awareness and increase student, and parent knowledge and involvement in diverse educational opportunities that have a positive and impact on educational attainment
Promote diverse learning experience for students that support necessary 21st century skills
Founded by Alan “AP” Powell, a former veteran himself, wanted to advance the quality of life and education to those who were underserved in the state of Arizona and surrounding areas. As a business leader, Powell believed major companies could leverage their resources to make an impact by sponsoring schools, organizations, and programs to assist in developing the potential of tomorrow’s leaders. Checkered Flag Run does this by offering several programs to help AZ communities:
The Bridge Forum, an exclusive panel of police chiefs for community engagement
Phoenix Tools 4 School, which provides basic school readiness supplies for students whose families can’t afford to purchase them.
Veterans Reach to Teach, for veterans to contribute to the secondary education of the community becoming guest teachers.
Arizona Charitable Giving is a labor of love created to make it easier for the residents of our great state to search and find local charities that touch their hearts. We share selected charities and events to a large distribution list of Arizona residents via email and social media on a regular basis. Any qualified charitable organizations are welcome to submit their profile to be included in our on-going outreach efforts.
