Helping Hands for Single Moms

Helping Hands for Single Moms

Assisting impoverished single mom families while they pursue a college education and financial independence was born from a chance meeting between minister Chris Coffman and a small boy he saw walking alone on a sidewalk in 2001. Since then, HHT has been able to successfully launch in the Tucson community, establish partnerships with local businesses, foundations and service providers and position itself for future growth.

By 2015, HHT has made a tremendous impact on the Tucson community:

  • 450 -plus single mom families served since 2002
  • 74% of our full scholarship clients have graduated or are currently enrolled
  • 73 single mom families currently receive benefits
  • 3.2 cumulative average GPA achieved by Helping Hands moms since 2007
  • $44,600 – the starting average career salary of Helping Hands graduates
  • $2.75 million in serves and financial aid provided to hundreds of single mom college student families since 2002

When a single mom first enrolls in college, her family situation often becomes worse before it gets better. In addition to midterms, finals and term papers, the single mom must attempt to live on inadequate financial resources while maintaining a household, managing transportation challenges, and nurturing her children.

She is juggling school, family and work while facing loneliness, isolation, and low self-esteem. Together, these are significant challenges that often converge and can lead to dropping out of school. In order to facilitate success, Helping Hands for Single Moms provides a supportive program.

Arizona Charitable Giving is a labor of love created to make it easier for the residents of our great state to search and find local charities that touch their hearts. We share selected charities and events to a large distribution list of Arizona residents via email and social media on a regular basis. Any qualified charitable organizations are welcome to submit their profile to be included in our on-going outreach efforts.

Thank you to our sponsors this month.
